Recently I visited a friend of mine, an older lady who I usually visit and spend time with. On this particular visit I brought my family as we sat and shared for a little on events and catching up. Soon after I started just putting some clothes items away and my daughter shared that she could help, it was then an idea came home to me. I thought a bit about her comment and a thought came home to me. I call it, “Leaning In”. How many times have I missed opportunities with God, times when He tried reaching out to me or The Holy Spirit whispered something to me and I just missed it. I missed it because I was too “occupied”, occupied with social media, scrolling, or, busy venting about hurt feelings, or caught up in a movie. It is endless with things that can occupy and opportunities, moments when The Holy Spirit wants to get our attention gets missed. “Leaning In” with God is all about being focused, being in the moment, being in a place where He is. If my daughter was distracted and unfocussed, got caught up in her own sphere of interests she would not be in the frame of mind to offer her help. Her mind would have been occupied on things that interests her. She however was focused, her thoughts and mind clear in such away she was able to capitalize on the moment and help. God wants His children the same way, have moments with Him where we “Lean On”, on Him. Spending time with Him, in His word, in prayer, or perhaps it can just be a quiet moment when we are meditating on Him. It is in these moments with Him, “Leaning In”, that He can share with us, we can hear from Him. Opportunities with Him becomes a one- on- one session where we hear from Him. I want to commit to these sessions of, “Leaning In” with God so I can be in the place where He is and capitalize on the moments to hear what He has to say to me.
